[ENGLISH] Frequently Asked Questions F.A.Q

[ENGLISH] Frequently Asked Questions

Find the answers to your most commonly asked questions below.
Q: What are transfer factors?
A: Transfer factors aren’t vitamins, minerals, or herbs—substances thatadd nutrients to the body. Transfer factors are molecules thatactually transfer immune memory and knowledge from one immune system toanother.

Q: When were transfer factors discovered?
A: In 1949, Dr. H. Sherwood Lawrence, a New York University immunologist, determined that an immune response could be transferred from a donor to arecipient through a white blood cell extract. He concluded that theextract contained a factor capable of transferring thedonor’s immunity information to the recipient and named the substancetransfer factor.
In 1998, 4Life Founders David and Bianca Lisonbee licensed the patent toextract transfer factors from cow colostrum. The introduction of 4Life TransferFactor® Classic opened the door to a new category of immune systemsupport products. 4Life’s commitment to transfer factorresearch has progressively raised the standard for modern-day immunesystem supplementation.

Q: What research has been done on transfer factors?
A: In the 50 years since Dr. Lawrence’s pioneering work on transferfactors, an estimated $40 million has been spent researching transferfactors and hundreds of scientific papers have been publisheddocumenting their effectiveness.
Recent independent studies report that 4Life Transfer Factor and 4Life Transfer Factor Plus Tri-Factor Formulas boost Natural Killer cell activity a remarkable 283% and 437%* when your body needs it.

Q: How does 4Life Transfer Factor support my immune system?
A: Transfer factors are some of the most unique molecules in your body. They carry important messages to immune cells all over the body, helpingthem fight harder and more effectively to keep you well.
Transfer factors provide intelligence to the immune system in three very important ways:
Recognize. Transfer factors help immune cells identify invading germs and other problems more quickly.
Respond. Transfer factors help speed up the immune system’s response to an invader after it’s been identified.

Remember. Transfer factors lend a hand inremembering the specific makeup of each germ your immune systemencounters, so the next time it comes around, your body knows exactlywhat it is, and what to do.

Q: Why does my immune system need support?
A: When your immune system works hard, you’re able to work and play hard. But when immune system function is impaired by too little sleep, environmental hazards, poor diet, or a high-stress lifestyle, it can’tdo its job. You should care about your immune system, because it cares for you.

Q: How can 4Life Transfer Factor support healthy energy levels?
A: 4Life Transfer Factor supports healthy energy levels by promoting theeffectiveness of your immune system. When your immune system is working asit should, you have plenty of energy to do the things you love. Plus, the more energy you have, the faster your bodyresponds to any new problem it encounters.

Q: If I eat healthy foods, why do I need 4Life Transfer Factor?
A: Healthy foods provide your body with important nutrients to help keepit strong. Immune cells definitely need this nutrition, but they alsoneed education. That’s what 4Life Transfer Factor provides—the education and information to help immune cells know whatthey should be doing to keep the immune system running at peakperformance.

Q: What is Transferceutical™ Science?
A: Transferceutical Science encompasses the research and development ofproducts that educate the immune system to recognize, respond to, andremember potential threats. Transferceutical Science and Products werepioneered by 4Life Research.

Q: How is 4Life Transfer Factor different from other products?
A: The biggest key to overall immune system health is balance—boostingwhen needed and calming down when needed. Almost all immune system products on the market today (vitamins, minerals, and herbs) have one thing incommon: they provide temporary nutrition. However, the best long-term solution to an active, balanced immune response isinformation.

The way that 4Life Transfer Factor works with your body's immune system iscompletely unique. It teaches your immune system to recognize, respond to, andremember potential invaders. Looking beyond nutrition to information is a profound paradigm shift, and 4Life Transfer Factoris the only product available that leverages this powerful paradigm.
4Life Transfer Factor Products were tested against other products advertised to increase immune function. 4Life’s products showed an increase in Natural Killer cell activity by up to 437 percent*, a far superior result to other products tested.

Q: Where does 4Life Transfer Factor come from?
A: Nature has perfected a way to help keep its young healthy. A motherpasses on vital immune know-how (gathered from her own experiences) in thefirst critical days of life. Mammals pass on this information throughthe mother’s first milk, or colostrums, whileother animals pass it through the egg. Transfer factors and nanofraction molecules are important components of this educationacting as nature’s first supplements.
Using patented and patent-pending processes, 4Life extracts transfer factorsfrom cow colostrum and chicken egg yolks to provide a wide range of immunesystem support. 4Life obtains nanofraction molecules from cow colostrumusing a nano filter.
Chickens and cows live outside, leaving them exposed to a variety of germs, which their immune systems must battle in order to stay healthy. Both transferfactors and nanofraction molecules can be safely transferred to humans, making cow colostrum and chicken egg yolk excellentsources for immune system support.

Q: What is NanoFactor™?
A: NanoFactor is 4Life’s exclusive extract of nanofraction molecules fromcow colostrum. NanoFactor provides essential intuition to the immune system, so immune cells know when to act, how to act, and when to rest.

Q: What is Tri-Factor® Formula?
A: 4Life Transfer Factor Tri-Factor Formula brings together theintelligence of 4Life Transfer Factor and the intuition of NanoFactor, to regulate, boost, and balance the immune system… according to what your body needs.

Q: Does 4Life have patents for their transfer factor products?
A: Yes. 4Life has obtained U.S. patents for its transfer factor productsfrom cow colostrum and chicken egg yolks. The extraction process fortransfer factors from chicken egg yolks is protected by U.S. patent6,468,534; exclusive combination techniques for transfer factorsfrom cow colostrum and chicken egg yolks are protected by U.S. patent6,866,868.

Who Can Use Transfer Factor?
People of allages can use transfer factor. Transfer factor was, in fact, designed bynature for newborns. People wishing to give transferfactor to infants and children under age 12 should work closely with amedical professional on deciding what dose to take.Typically, children do well with doses half that of the adult/labeldose. Infants would require somewhat less. While there is noknown toxicity to transfer factor, picking doses for younger childrenand infants should be done with prudence.

Who Needs Transfer Factor?
Anyone—healthy or diseased, with a few exceptions—benefits from regular transfer factorsupplementation. The use of transfer factor hasresulted in no reports of serious adverse reactions, even whenclinically administered in doses in excess of normal for prolonged periods.
Those with specific ailmentsalso benefit. Numerous studies have shown the effectiveness of transferfactor in eliminating or aleviating symptoms of herpes, chronic fatigue syndrome, epstein barr, hepatitis, secondary infectiondue to AIDS, candida, cancer and many other disorders.Studies have also shown than continual use provides the greatest benefit with maximum immune activity occuring 24 to 48 hoursafter initial dosing.
The need for transfer factoras an adjunct to better health stems from the growing awareness thatprevention is the best source of treatment. With theincreasing risks of antibiotic resistance and significant healththreats, such as SARS, the medical community increasinglyturns to the inherent concept of vaccines—prevention.
Transfer factors are akin tovaccines. But, rather than expose the patient’s immune system to theactual disease or a deactivated version of thesame, transfer factors expose the patient’s immune system to the memoryof a health threat—whether foreign ornative—and the knowledge of how to best respond to protect itself.

Should I take Transfer Factor™ or Transfer Factor™ Plus?
If anindividual should choose to use Transfer Factor™, their immune systemmay be supported in ways that it otherwise would not.Transfer factors work as instructors to the different members of theimmune system. This instruction assists the function of theimmune system in recognizing and fighting outside threats to yourhealth. Transfer factors are immune modulators, which meansthat they are able to support healthy immune function by an InducerFactor as well as a Suppressor Factor. In addition, an independent study showed that 4Life™'s Transfer Factor™ was shown to increase the Natural Killer cell (NK)activity by more than 100%. This is an importantdiscovery in that NK cells carry the immune messaging cytokines, whichdirect battle with outside threats. When NK cell count isincreased the immune system is working more effectively.

Transfer Factor Plus™ is different from Transfer Factor™ in that it has additional ingredients. These ingredients include thymic proteins, cordyceps, IP-6, maitake mushrooms, beta glucan, zinc, and shiitake mushrooms that help initiate a stronger stimulating immune response than that ofTransfer Factor™. Transfer Factor Plus™ strengthens both the innateimmune system (the immune information an individual is born with) andthe adaptive immune system (the immune information anindividual's immune system has obtained throughout life). For yourindividual condition, either or both of these products may beof benefit to you because of its supporting and strengthening. If youchoose to use these products, please consult yourphysician to make sure there will be no complications or interactionsassociated with your current state of health. Greaterinformation and detail is available through Dr. William J. Hennen'sbooklets entitled Natural Immune Booster: Transfer Factor and Enhanced Transfer Factor.

Can pregnant women take Transfer Factor™?
There have been no adverse responses reported while taking Transfer Factor during pregnancy. As with all supplements, consult a physician before use.

Is Transfer Factor™ Casein and Gluten free?
Yes, inpreparing Transfer Factor™ the large molecular proteins are removed, including casein and antibodies. Milk allergies are caused by thelarge proteins in milk, primarily casein and to a lesser extentantibodies.

Gluten is another extracted protein andis predominately isolated from wheat, rye and barley. Because TransferFactor XF is extracted from colostrum, gluten is notfound in Transfer Factor™.

Does Transfer Factor Plus™ contain yeast?
Transfer Factor Plus™ contains a component derived from baker's yeast called beta glucans. Transfer Factor Plus™ does not contain whole yeast however.

Does TF Kids™ contain less Transfer Factor XF™ than regular Transfer Factor™?
Yes, TF Kids™contains 150 mg of Transfer Factor XF™ per tablet where Transfer Factor™ capsules contain 200mg eachcapsule. Because of the weight differential between adults and children, TF Kids™ contains less Transfer Factor XF™.Instructions concerning serving size may be found on the TF Kids™labels.

Can I discontinue taking Transfer Factor™ or is it necessary to take it continuously?
IdeallyTransfer Factor™ should be used daily to continually work to support the immune system. If you discontinue taking TransferFactor™ your immune system will miss out on its daily support.

Is it safe to take multiple capsules of Transfer Factor™ a day?
There is no known toxicity level associated with Transfer Factor™.
How does ingesting transfer factors orally compare to injecting transfer factors from blood preparations?
Generally, the effects are very similar no matter how transfer factors enter the body. Because transfer factors originate in the blood, thesource of transfer factors is identical whether they reenter the body in concentrated form such as 4Life™ Transfer Factor™, or by injection.

The NK cell study talks about "in vitro." What does this mean?
In vitro, means "out of the body". This means that substances are tested onextracted cells that have been removed from the body. In vivomeans that substances are placed into the body and the results aremeasured "in the body."

Can you take transfer factors from one group of people and give them to another group of people?
This processis how Dr. Lawrence discovered transfer factors. He took the white blood cells (leukocytes) from a previously infectedtuberculosis patient, who has regained their health, and injected thesewhite blood cells into a recently infected patient. Thewhite blood cells from the "old" TB patient contain information on howthe immune system fights against the disease andtransferred this information to the "new" patient.

Are there research studies available on Transfer Factor™?
There are nowresources made available containing condensed information from thevolumes and volumes of research available on Transfer Factor™ and the components that were brought together in TransferFactor Plus™. The information can be found inthe writings of William Hennen, Ph.D., and also by a member of 4Life's Medical Advisory Board, Rita Elkins, MH, with hundreds of additional references.

Why do you choose cows as your source for Transfer Factor™?
4Life™extracts Transfer Factor™ from cow colostrum because it is an immenseand available source. Transfer factors are non-speciesspecific, meaning they can be used in humans even if the original source is a different mammal.

Is Transfer Factor™ effective on large animals such as horses? If so, what is the suggested serving?
Yes, TransferFactor™ can be given to animals, including horses. TF Pets™ is available for canines and felines, but regular Transfer Factor™ can be taken by any animal. Remember when you are calculatingserving size for animals that they have a much more "heroic" and responsive immune system. Animals, especially thegrazers, are much more immunologically responsive andcan get by with less Transfer Factor™ per pound. The immune system has a way of amplifying the signal. Serving sizes forlarger animals do not always correspond to weight entirely, especiallywhen you are dealing with grazers. Start your animalon a minimal amount and continue to increase the serving over time, ifnecessary.

Why do we need to use Transfer Factor™ if we received immune information when we were infants?
The transferfactors we received as infants are just purposeful as those available in Transfer Factor™. As infants, mother's colostrumgave immune information while our immune systems were not fullydeveloped, but the transfer factors were absorbed into thebloodstream and eventually were used up to become part of thefunctioning immune system, consisting of lymphocytes, natural killercells, macrophages, etc. The information provided at birth was to workagainst the specific threats experienced by yourmother at that time; after years of life new threats to the immunesystem exist. By using oral transfer factor we are providingthe same type of immune information we received at birth.

Will Transfer Factor™ or Transfer Factor Plus™ help my specific medically diagnosed condition?
Unfortunately, 4Life™ is unable to prescribe specific supplements for identifiedconditions; we are only able to describe systemfunction that may be supported through supplementation. Overall,Transfer Factor and Transfer Factor Plus are designed tosupport normal immune function. Additional information is available in Transfer Factor or Enhanced Transfer Factor by William Hennen, Ph.D., two booklets available through our Order Entry Department.

Is there a Transfer Factor product created for topical application?
Yes, TFRenewall has been formulated for external application to support thebody's first line of immune defense: the skin. Please consult with a physician for information on specific skin conditions.
I have heard reports of people exceeding the recommended serving size of Transfer Factor™. Is this safe?
Transfer Factor has been consumed for many years with no reported side effects. Studies have shown no toxicity. The recommended maintenance amount is 3 capsules a day.

Can a person use more than the recommended serving size of Transfer Factor Plus™?
Someindividuals do use more for added immune support during short duration. The best and safest way to begin using Transfer Factor Plus™ is to use the recommended serving size as listed on the product label.
How does Transfer Factor™ react to heat?
Long-term exposure to high temperatures can degrade potency and possibly neutralize Transfer Factor™ activity. Transfer Factor should be stored in a cool, dry environment.

Can people who are lactose intolerant use Transfer Factor™?
Yes. The large proteins, such as lactose, are filtered out during the extractionprocess. Are transfer factors made of sugars, proteins or fats? Isolated transfer factors have been determined to be a chain of smallpeptides consisting of 44 amino acids. Amino acidsare the building blocks of proteins.

Why do people use Transfer Factor Plus™ or Transfer Factor™ during treatments that severely weaken immune function?
The immunesystem is challenged during times of stress. Because of this, additional support through supplementation may promote a healthy immunesystem. When the immune system is working effectively, recovery occursat an ideal pace. The use of Transfer Factor™ orTransfer Factor Plus™ is appropriate at anytime you feel your immunesystem has been compromised.

Is transfer factor good only for newborns?
Transferfactor is good for everyone who needs an extra immune boost. The threegroups who are most in need of immune strengthening are theyoung, the old, and anyone under stress. Almost all of us fall into oneof these categories. We often talk of the baby-boomgeneration. Most of these people are at an age where already theirimmune systems are becoming lax. Transfer factor is a way toboost a lagging immune system.

If transfer factor is so effective, then why hasn't the pharmaceutical industry jumped on it?
I think thatis exactly what we are seeing in many countries, notably China,Czechoslavakia, Germany, Hungary, Poland, and Japan. In the US,transfer factor has had an interesting history. The idea of transferfactor flies in the face of conventional immunology. Inthe 1950's, antibiotics were the golden child of medicine, followed inthe 60's by steroids like cortisone for inflammationand the synthetic steroid hormones like ethinyl estrogen and progestinthat were used to create the birth control pill. After aninitial delay, transfer factor hit its heyday in the 70's and early80's. Results, however, were inconsistent as researchersdove in sometimes with more enthusiasm than skill. The key feature thatwas missing in these investigations was a dependableassay technique for quality control of the product. The quality controlissue was not resolved until the mid 1980's. Given thattransfer factor is not a single entity, the pharmaceutical companies had fits trying to purify the material without losingefficacy. This attempted force-fit into the single-entity,single-function drug dogma was disastrous. The next issue that slowedtransfer factor research is the age-old issue of funding. When AIDS hitthe popular press, politicians shifted funding into AIDsresearch, but with focus on finding the cause and then finding a drugthat would cure AIDs. The work of a few, dedicated, butunder-funded researchers and the inability of the mainstreammedical-pharmaceutical industry have combined to again focusattention on transfer factor as one of the few modalities that iseffective against diseases of viral origin.

Are there reasons why we haven't seen transfer factor as a food supplement before now?
Yes, there are two doors that recently have opened that allow transfer factor to beeffectively marketed now. The first door to open wasthe passage of the DSHEA (Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act)in 1994. The provision for structure-functions claimsallows the story of transfer factor to be told without jeopardizing itsstatus as a nutritional supplement. The second istechnical. Transfer factor was definitely an idea way ahead of its timeand it had to wait for technology to catch up. The processingmethods that allow for large scale extraction of transfer factor haveonly recently been perfected, and a commercial product has only been available for the last three years.

Is Transfer Factor™ FDA approved?
Foods and dietary supplements are not approved per se by the FDA. Food supplements derived from milk would certainly fall under the category of Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS).
Is Transfer Factor™ safe?
YES. Researchers have given huge doses of transfer factor to volunteers in an attempt to trigger some sort of adverse reaction. No negative side effects were observed, even with massive doses.

Is Transfer Factor™ safe for infants?
Colostral transfer factor was designed by nature for newborns. Removal of the milk allergens and lactose leaves the essence of the immunologic information in the form of transfer factor.
